Why Leroy Schools

Academic Opportunity and Professional Practice: We provide a comprehensive educational program for children who are pre-kindergarten all the way to our seniors in high school. We have a very strong focus on reading instruction and believe that it is the most critical component to the long-term academic success of our students.

  • In 2008 we began a journey to look at the best approach to reach all students in the area of reading, out of that journey was born our comprehensive and balanced literacy approach to instruction.
  • Our K-8 staff is dedicated to providing the greatest opportunity to all learners in all ranges of academic proficiency and we have seen tremendous gains in academic achievement and student engagement.
  • Our high school boasts a wide range of core curricular opportunities, including a continued commitment to vocational content.
  • We have partnerships with the Bloomington Area Career Center to further enhance the vocational opportunities for our students, our local business community provides real world work opportunities through a Senior Internship Program, and Parkland College continues to provide complete access to our students.
  • 40% of our Junior and Senior students will enroll in at least one college course and many will graduate from high school with one full semester of college already completed.
  • Our staff is committed to continuous professional development and the implementation of that training to provide 21st Century learning opportunities to their students.
  • Facilities: In 2006, our district completed the construction of brand new $8,000,000 high school facility. In the last four years, we have brought air conditioning to all of our buildings, remodeled all of the classrooms in the pre-K to 4th grade wings of our elementary building, added new locker rooms/practice gym/wrestling room to our high school campus, and built a new all-weather track. We believe that 21stCentury facilities are a key component to a 21st Century education.

  • Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Opportunity: We are in the category of a “small school,” which means that our students can participate in as many opportunities as they would like; Band, Chorus, Play, Musical, Madrigals, Art Festival, FFA, Yearbook, Key Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, Academic Team Competition, Bass Fishing, Cheerleading, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Football, Wrestling, Basketball, Track, Cross-Country.
