May Principal Message

Panther Families,

May has arrived and 18 days of school remain with only 14 days left for our Seniors.  This time of year gets very busy and tends to fly by.  We have a long list of events at the end of this e-mail that will help you plan your end of the school year.  This month is traditionally one of great celebration with Seniors finalizing post-secondary plans, announcements of scholarship winners, and other fun events to close out the year.  It also marks the transition of all students to new grade levels with big changes for our incoming 7th graders, 8th graders moving to high school, and Juniors preparing for their Senior year.

This year’s May message is a little bittersweet as it will be my last monthly message to you as principal.  It is likely that you read in my January parent message that I was offered and accepted the Superintendency of LeRoy CUSD #2 beginning July 1, 2023, succeeding Mr. Tipsord after his retirement and 16 years serving as our Superintendent.  I have truly loved serving as building principal for the past 6 years and as associate principal the previous 10 years.  Working with your children every day, has been the most enjoyable part of my 22 years in education.  I am excited for this new opportunity with LeRoy Schools and to serve our students, families, staff, and community differently, but I will miss the role of principal.

In December, our Board of Education formally hired Kelsey Winterland as the next principal of LeRoy Junior/Senior High School.  Mrs. Winterland was my strong recommendation to be the next leader of our building.   She has served the students of LeRoy since 2009, first as a student teacher and cheerleading coach, and most recently as high school business teacher and associate principal.  While Mrs. Winterland has served in many leadership roles within our district and been a key contributor to our organization as a teacher leader, her work leading our Habits of Success and Profile of a Graduate has played a significant role in the culture of who we are as a junior/senior high school.  She has shown a great capacity to positively influence the lives of our students, and it became clear that she was the best choice to be the next leader of Le Roy Junior/Senior High School.  Mrs. Winterland will officially begin her duties as principal beginning July 1, 2023.

As I always tell our teachers and students when the end of the year nears, there is light at the end of the tunnel.  We can make it.  It has been a long year, but a great year of learning, growth, and, hopefully, some fun.  We are fortunate to serve great and supportive students and parents.  For that we are grateful.  Please encourage your child to be positive the 14-19 days, and finish the year on a high note.  We will do the same!

Principal
