September Principal Message

Panther Families,

We are off to a great start through the first two weeks of school!  While the school year is a marathon and not a sprint, we are confident our trend to this point will continue.  Our Seniors are providing a supportive and positive tone through their building leadership, 7th graders are settling in and transitioning smoothly, and our 17 new students have been welcomed with open arms.  For the majority of us who have been fortunate to live here for many years, it is important to note how often new students and families report how nice, supportive, and welcoming our students, staff, and families are.  LeRoy truly is a unique and positive place.

As the school year evolves, there are a few things to keep in mind to help your child be successful.  Most importantly, encourage your child to fully engage in the learning process.  The more students take ownership of their own learning, the more successful they will be.  This includes advocating for themselves to their teachers and doing their work.  These tasks alone will result in success in their classes.  Encourage your child to communicate with their teacher if they do not understand something or if they are unsure of expectations.  Their engagement in conversation with teachers will show their personal value of their success.  If you as parents have questions, please contact your child’s teachers and they will happily engage in conversation about your child’s learning.  They are the most knowledgeable about what is going on in class and how to help your child.  All of our teachers care about their students’ success and are here to help with learning, accountability, and to prepare students for life after graduation.

Throughout the school year, we will practice several school safety drills in compliance with Illinois School Code.  These drills include bus evacuation (1), fire (3), tornado (1), lockdown/crisis (1), and will begin in September.  Each drill takes minimal time out of class (5-10 minutes) and we space them out appropriately throughout the year

If you have multiple children in multiple sports or you are a Panther super fan, you may want to consider purchasing an Annual Athletic Pass.  Single Passes are $50 and Couples Passes are $100.  You can purchase a pass by emailing Karin Morgan (morgank@leroyk12.org) in the district office.  She will prepare your pass(es) and deliver them to the junior-senior high school building for your pick up and payment.  We also offer Golden Age Passes for ages 55+ for free admission.  Annual Athletic Passes get you into all LeRoy Junior-Senior High School pay events with the exception of the IESA and IHSA postseason.

Thank you for your support with our shifts in increasing accountability this year.  Our students are doing a great job of exercising Habits of Success with our expectations regarding academic accountability, cellphones, earbuds, and extra personal clutter in the classrooms.
