Panther Families,

We are officially through the first quarter of the school year!

Our Student Achievement

At Le Roy CUSD #2, we do not believe any single assessment - whether state or local - defines a child’s academic ability or potential.  We do believe academic assessment data is one piece of the pie that helps inform the whole child’s Profile of a Graduate (Academic, Career, Co-Curricular, Service Learning).

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) will soon publicly release results from last year’s state assessments.  While these assessments provide some insight, they represent a single snapshot in time with delayed feedback.  In contrast, our students participate in the learning standards aligned Renaissance STAR Assessment three times per year, giving us real-time data to monitor achievement, track growth, and provide specific timely interventions.  Some of our state summative data will report well and some will not.  We believe in who we are and the work our staff, students, and families do every day to give our students opportunity for success.

Our Facilities

Our second major project funded by County Schools Facility Tax (CSFT) revenue is planned to begin this summer and extend into the 2028-29 school year.  We are in the process of planning and evaluating renovation of our football/track complex.  This will include demolition of our existing concession/restroom/locker room building, accessibility improvements, and grass field renovation to address ongoing wear and drainage issues.  A broad vision at this time includes a new building in the southeast corner of the football complex.  The building would serve the football field and track for shelter, restroom, concession, and locker rooms.  In addition, accessibility parking would be added in place of the current concession building, and the east end of the endzone would be structurally improved with a walkway between locations.  The project will begin this summer and be completed for the 2028-29 school year.  In addition, we are in the process of planning the replacement of the exterior windows of our junior high school wing, and fencing in our pre-K playground to include an asphalt play area.

Check out our CSFT Transparency Dashboard on our district website for ongoing updates to our long-term facility planning.

Our Finance

By now, everyone should have their correct McLean County Property Value Notices.  The county continues to experience unprecedented property value growth of 7-8% this year and as much as 10-12% in recent years, compared to a historic average of 2-3%.

As a district, we remain committed to balancing two responsibilities:  Providing high-quality services for our students while also being good stewards of taxpayer (investors in our schools) dollars.  Even as property values have risen, LeRoy CUSD #2 has lowered the school district tax rate for five consecutive years.

While we do not have an impact on property values, as promised we will use CSFT revenue to lower our property tax rate.  We will also closely examine our variable tax rates and levy based on our known liability.  This will likely allow us to abate more of our tax rate than we estimated with the CSFT.  We will lower our tax rate to the lowest level we have seen in our records, dropping under $5.00 per $100,000 value.

Our Community Relations

Our focus will continue to be on effective communication, consistency in decision-making processes, and transparency.
