Coach Greg Conn Celebrates 40 Seasons

On Thursday, August 17, Coach Conn was celebrated at the annual LeRoy Legends night.

Greg Conn graduated from Le Roy High School in 1997. He was a captain on the 1996 Le Roy Football State Championship team and started at left guard. Throughout his playing days, he was a ‘lead by example’ captain. He wasn’t flashy, he just worked hard and was very humble. He put others first and was one of the nicest student athletes you’d ever meet. He loved his family growing up as Lloyd and Carolyn didn’t miss a game. Although he loved sports, family was always first. When you think of the Conn family, you think of their deep love for one another and the deep roots they have in Le Roy.

He went to college at Southern Illinois University and earned his teaching degree. There were several Panthers turned Salukis in the late 90s as it very much felt like home with maroon everywhere and many small-town Illinois students throughout campus.

When college was over, there was no doubt where Greg was headed next! He started teaching and coaching at Le Roy. He married his awesome wife Kelly and are raising some great kids! We greatly appreciate Kelly as being a coach’s wife isn’t easy! Greg has taught and coached over twenty years at Le Roy and continues to pour into students and athletes every year.

When you coach for over twenty years, you can easily lose track of the years. After the completion of the Panther Softball 3rd place season, Coach Conn completed his 40th season coaching High School athletics at Le Roy. He’s coached football, softball and wrestling over this time. On top of his 40 seasons in high school, he’s also coached 15 seasons at the junior high level. He was also named one of the News Gazette Assistant Coaches of the Year in 2022. When we asked some coaches to describe Greg in words it was loyal, selfless, hard-working, creative, patient and kind. To people that know Coach Conn, these are not surprising words used to describe him.

THANK YOU COACH CONN FOR YOUR SACRIFICE AND POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR KIDS AND COMMUNITY.   We appreciate you!
