LeRoy High School Class of 2021 Graduate, Jerred Grussing, is featured in this edition of Parkland College's Achieve news. Jerred was the first LHS student to attend the Bloomington Area Career Center (BACC) for an entire day in AM and PM programs, and to complete 3 programs in Auto Mechanics I, Auto Mechanics II, and Welding. Jerred was heavily involved in Ag and FFA at LHS. He earned his American FFA degree by working for a local farmer, growing it into working at Birkey’s Farm Store, and ultimately going to the Parkland CASE New Holland Program. “I grew up farming with my family and working for a neighbor who farmed, so operating and and working on equipment was natural to me,” Grussing said. “Going through the diesel program at Parkland, I was able to further my knowledge on how certain machines worked and learn the steps to better diagnose when there were issues with machines.”

The LeRoy Education Advancement Foundation (LEAF) is a not-for-profit corporation organized in 1996 to supplement and enhance educational opportunities for the students of LeRoy Schools. In its founding year, LEAF began by funding a supervised computer library and Internet access for LeRoy students and residents. Since its inception, LEAF has also funded individual classroom grants that enhance the day to day learning opportunities for our students. These have included classroom materials, educational field trips, and supporting technology in the classroom. From July 1, 1996 to the present, LEAF has contributed over $300,000 to enhance learning experiences and support the future of our children. In recent years, LEAF has combined funds with the school district to purchase Chromebooks, Smart Boards, establish teacher training centers, and help fund the development of special student training areas. Most recently, LEAF donated $100,000 to an inclusive playground at LeRoy Elementary School, which will serve our students and community. LEAF wants to continue to play a vital role in our children’s education and future. To do this they need your volunteer and financial support. You may contribute cash gifts, endowments, memorials, or bequests. If you are interested in volunteering with LEAF or making a donation, please contact Karin Morgan (morgank@leroyk12.org or 309-962-4211) in the LCUSD #2 District Office.

Last week we Sierra Leinweber and her H.S. Health students had the pleasure of welcoming LeRoy Emergency Ambulance Services, Inc. to the classroom. The students participated in a 3 day CPR, Choking, and AED training for infants, children, and adults. We now have 52 more high school students who are CPR & AED certified in our community! Thank you to Laura Willis and her team at the LeRoy Ambulance for providing us the opportunity to learn these life saving skills!
