Beginning in 2008, LeRoy CUSD #2 started holding annual State of the Schools events in person. The intent was to transparently share where the district had been, where we are currently, and forecast vision to the future. Communication methods have evolved over the years, and everyone seems busier by the day. In an effort to reach as many families as possible, this year we have decided to share our State of the Schools through a short video series. Each year, the General Joseph Bartholomew Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) recognizes high school seniors as Outstanding Good Citizens.  These students are nominated by teachers and other staff members based on the qualities of: Dependability, Service, Leadership, Scholarship, and Patriotism. Today was the 25th Annual SAR Good Citizenship Scholarship Luncheon held at the Bloomington Country Club. Twenty outstanding high school seniors from McLean and Woodford Counties were celebrated today! Seniors are selected by their school and awarded with a SAR Good Citizenship Certificate. Matthew Stuepfert was nominated by his teachers and other staff members at LeRoy High School to receive this award. Matthew plans to attend Illinois State University and study finance. Congratulations, Matthew. We are proud of you and we wish you the best of luck in the future!

Traffic flow and safety reminders at LeRoy Junior-Senior High School.

Congratulations to the ACES team for finishing 5th in the 21-team`Eastern Illinois University Sectional, and advancing to the ACES state competition in April. They are only the second Le Roy ACES or WYSE team ever to advance to the State competition. Our top finishers were: Kaitlyn Cox 5th in Chemistry Thomas Jackson 5th in Physics Brady Grizzle 5th in Engineering Graphics Izzy Pray 8th in Computer Science Izzy Shivers 9th in Biology Izzy Shivers 10th in English Emily Bogema 12th in Math

LeRoy High School Senior Abigail Clapp was selected to receive this year's Good Citizens Scholarship Award presented by the Letitia Green Stevenson DAR Chapter. Abby was chosen from an outstanding group of twelve seniors from McLean and Woodford County schools. Each year the local DAR Chapter requests that area schools nominate one senior to receive the Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Good Citizenship Award. Abby was nominated by teachers and faculty based on the ideals of character and citizenship exemplified through the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. The Letitia Green Stevenson DAR Chapter honored each of the twelve area Good Citizen recipients with a $100 monetary award, a DAR Good Citizen Pin, a recognition Certificate, and a red/white/blue cord that can be worn at the student's graduation ceremony. Congratulations to Abby on being named the Outstanding Good Citizen for LeRoy High School and on being selected as the winner of the $1,000 DAR Scholarship.

Le Roy High School's anatomy program welcomed Dr. Andrea Braundmeier-Fleming, Professor of Immunology at SIU School of Medicine to guest lecture on brain anatomy, neuronal signaling, pathologies and diseases. Following the presentation was hands on with whole human brains, hemi brains and a hemi brain coronally sliced. Alongside for comparison, students viewed sheep, pig and mouse brains. The students loved this special event! Thank you to Dr. Braundmeier-Fleming for visiting and thank you to Mrs. Alene Bush for coordinating this unforgettable classroom experience.

Le Roy High School Art Students are set to participate in the 2024 HOIC Art Festival at Illinois State University on March 1, 2024. The festival features over 120 students from 13 Conference Schools, showcasing more than 75 artworks in the HOIC Art Festival Gallery Show. The exhibition will run from Feb 20th to March 1st at ISU Student Gallery, Julian Hall, 251 S. School Street, Normal, IL. 10 Best in Show Awards were awarded, along with several Honorable Mention Awards. Le Roy students secured awards in the following categories: • Isabel Vance - Best in Sculpture • Aeris La Bounty - Honorable Mention 2-D Mixed Media • Ashlen Osborn - Honorable Mention Photography & Video These exceptional works are exhibited alongside pieces by Adie Hahn, Kendra Douthitt, Kayden Wallen, Emma Hankins, and Katie Masterson. Senior Intern Spotlight: KARLEY SPRATT I have been interning at the Orthopedic and Shoulder Center. At this time, I can only observe what my mentors are doing, but I've learned a lot about how to interact well, build connections with patients, and my knowledge about the human body has greatly expanded. This experience has made me realize that healthcare is definitely what I want to continue to do in the future!

This week, high school PE students traveled to the Yoga Lab in Bloomington where they participated in two classes: Power Yoga & Restorative Yoga. They also enjoyed mini açaí bowls after class. Following yoga, they ice skated at the Pepsi Ice Center. One goal of Mrs. Leinweber’s Fitness and Wellness PE class is to introduce a variety of fitness activities as well as showcase life-long fitness opportunities in our own community and surrounding areas.

Senior Intern Spotlight: BROOKLYN SPRATT At my internship at H&H Family Dental, I have been observing the hygienist, rolling instruments, and making hygiene trays. Through this experience so far I have learned that it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them. My internship has helped me expand my knowledge about dental hygiene and helped me gain skills to use in my future!

Senior Intern Spotlight: LAUREN BOSSINGHAM Last semester I interned in Kindergarten, and this semester I am currently interning under Mrs. Clarke in first grade. The opportunity to intern at LeRoy Elementary School has better prepared me for when I become an elementary school teacher. Interning has given me so much knowledge and experience. Through this internship, I have been able to experience what it is like to be hands-on in a classroom setting. I have also learned many skills from my mentors, such as classroom management, flexibility, organization strategies, and communication techniques. By having the opportunity to do this internship, I have been able to confirm that teaching at the elementary level is something that I am passionate about.

Senior Intern Spotlight: BRODY BENNETT I have been a student intern at Le Roy Elementary school in Mrs. Fox's kindergarten classroom. Over the past couple months, I have learned how to help our youngest students learn academic and social skills. I have also learned how to build relationships with our kindergarten students. A strong teacher-student connection often helps kindergarteners feel more comfortable and can even help them learn more! I’m happy I got to gain hands-on experience in a classroom setting because it has helped me decide that I would like to teach kindergarten in my future.
